Microsoft can't keep up with Surface pre-orders despite perceived high price

By: (more) | Mobile Devices, Tablets & Phones News | Posted: Oct 17, 2012 6:44 pm

Microsoft is either experiencing high demand for their new Surface tablet or grossly underestimated the needed supply. As it currently stands, the $499 Surface tablet is currently on backorder for at least three weeks. The other two models remain available for delivery on October 26, which is interesting to me.

The $599 model is the same as the $499, but simply includes the keyboard cover. You'd think that if the 32GB $499 model is sold out, so would the $599 model. The only thing I can figure is they actually included the keyboard in the packaging, which seems like a bad idea to me. Microsoft should have focused on moving units.

If you're looking to pick up the new Surface tablet for October 26, you better order quickly in case the $599 or $699 model ends up selling out. Besides, the tablet is probably pretty useless without the nice keyboard cover.
