Busted! Dell Scam Revealed

As I was reading through my daily issue of the military newspaper, Stars and Stripes, I noticed a rather interesting headline in their "American Roundup" section. Since I can't pull the article up on their website, I'll just have to type it up for you. Grand Prairie, TX - 2 Arrested In Scam

Dude! It's not a Dell! Two Dallas men are accused of trying to pass off shrink-wrapped boxes of newspapers and phone books as Dell laptop computers.


Bill L. Rayford, 25, and Edward J. Clay, 34, were arrested Tuesday in Grand Prairie on suspicion of deceptive business practices.


They allegedly had about 20 boxes, adorned with falsified Dell logos, in the back of a car Monday and were selling them for $300 each or $800 for three, Sgt. Scott Trim said. The sales pitch included a demonstration with a real Dell computer.


The manager of a Grand Prairie auto parts store thought the items were stolen, contacted police and asked the men to return the next day, when detectives arrested the pair, Trim said.


Dell is based in Round Rock[, Texas].
