NVDVD Review @ Boogle Tech

By: (more) | Posted: Sep 27, 2002 10:18 am

The guys at Boogle Tech have posted an extensive look at nVidia's new DVD playback software, NVDVD. It's not just your typical review; they go beyond the call-of-duty and measure power consumption while playing a DVD on a notebook with NVDVD and PowerDVD 4, and of course much more.

NVDVD itself is a brilliant piece of software that is clean, performs well, and doesn't kick up a fuss. It lets you do what you want, when you want, unlike some players that wont let you change chapter or title at certain times. One slight problem I found was if you change from software mode to hardware mode, or vice versa, you would have to close and reopen the program for your changes to take effect. This should be a non-issue to you, but to a reviewer it does cause some hassle. FordPrefect found that CPU utilisation would go up to 100% with him on occasions, I didn't experience this myself, but you may want to take it into consideration.
