VIA to Fill KT333 Shortage With Remarked KT400; Could Cause Problems

By: (more) | Posted: Sep 23, 2002 8:48 pm

In a move that confused many motherboard manufacturers, VIA announced that they will be filling the recent supply shortage of KT333 motherboards with remarked KT400's. Later, VIA plans to phase out KT333 production by the end of December. Manufacturers also believe that the KT400 chipset will be unusable on the KT333 motherboard PCB's.

VIA said that shipments of the remarked KT400 will begin at the end of this month, or early October. The chipset supplier plans to simplify its product portfolio by gradually reducing the number of its major product lines from three (the KT266A, KT333 and KT400) to two (the KT266A and KT400). However, it stressed that the product life of the KT333 will last until the end of December.
