Breaking News - Yahoo! to Release Online Service

By: (more) | Posted: Sep 23, 2002 6:11 pm

Today, Yahoo! is expected to release an online broadband service, called Games on Demand. This service is geared to provide subscribers with options for up to 10 games for 30 days. Like playing Grand Theft Auto 2, Hitman, or Tomb Raider? Plans range from US$4.95, to $14.95. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't mind this simple Try-Before-You-Buy approach.

After a one-time download of the Game Launcher, which allows games to be streamed to the desktop, players can choose how they rent the titles, either multi-game, monthly subscriptions or single, three-day rentals. "The play experience is the same as if you bought the CD-ROM off the shelf in the store," said Daniel Hart, senior director of Yahoo! Games and Entertainment.
