Why Delay? AMD's Decision to Push Back Barton and Clawhammer

By: (more) | Posted: Sep 17, 2002 8:11 pm

Our friends over at Sudhian Media have an interesting new article today discussing AMD's decision to push back both Barton and Clawhammer processors. Definitely one for the AMD fans among us.

As you've probably read / heard by now (or are about to, if you haven't, AMD announced last week that they have pushed back the launches of both Barton (K7) and Clawhammer (K8), with Barton now scheduled for launch in Q402, and Hammer moved from its initial Q402 position to a new launch date in the 1st quarter of 2003. While it's common for a company to continuously refine their roadmaps through the year, decisions on which products should be introduced when, how they should be segmented, and what price points they should cover are never taken lightly. Although this article will focus on AMD's delay of the above two processors, its greater intent is to explain the numerous factors that can affect the launch of a processor from any company.
