Spotify to offer 6 months of free service, will open across the entire of the US

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek is well aware that the music streaming battle has just begun, with invites now disappearing because... well, the flood gates are open and it's available to everyone. 6 months free, no subscription required. At the moment, this cannot be fully verified by Spotify, but if it is true, what happens to those who have been paying for Unlimited or Premium subscriptions? The move from Spotify is quite the large one, with previous news fresh from a few hours ago that Spotify will integrate with Facebook allowing people to listen to songs together.

At the moment, the news is a bit hot off the oven, but with competitors MOG and Rdio both recently introducing free or "freemium" plans, it is hard to think how these businesses would be turning in a profit.
