SBG Update: Sub-lieutenant PC running at the speed of AMD Fusion

By: (more) | Computer Systems News | Posted: Jul 4, 2011 7:34 am

The launch of Llano last week means that it's time to give our beloved System Builders Guides an update. With the focus of the new Fusion platform from AMD being aimed at building well priced systems it seemed the perfect opportunity for our $1000 USD Sub-lieutenant PC platform to get a major overhaul.

The base of the system revolves around the AMD A8-3850 2.9GHz Quad-Core APU and an ASUS F1A75-V Pro motherboard. Along with that we've moved to a HD 6670 video card which can run in CrossFire with the onboard GPU present in the A8-3850 APU. We also made the switch to the Flare series of memory from G.Skill which has been built for the AMD platform to help get the most performance out of it.

Along with those major changes we've switched over to a SATA III hard drive while also managing to get an extra 500GB of storage to bring us to a total of 1.5TB. We've also got a cheaper price on the DVD burner which helps keep the system competitively priced.

Along with this we've also got a monitor, keyboard and mice, case and CPU cooler to create a full system that comes in at just over $1000 USD.

If you're interested in seeing just what kind of performance you can achieve from a system like this, we highly recommend you look at our latest content AMD A8-3850 (Llano) APU Video Performance Examined where we use the A8-3850, ASUS F1A75-V Pro, HD 6670 and 4GB of G.Skill Flare RAM to show just what the new Llano platform is capable of.

Of course you can see our Sub-lieutenant and other systems in our dedicated System Builders Guide page.
