Google's Swiffy converts Flash to HTML5, iOS users cry tears of joy

Google's Swiffy converts Flash to HTML5

| Mobile Devices News | Posted: Jun 29, 2011 2:00 am

A Google Labs-based project 'Swiffy' converts SWF files into HTML5 that will run in browsers that also support JavaScript objects, SVC and CSS3. The results? It allows pages to work in any modern browser, desktop or mobile. Product Manager, Marcel Gordons says the app is possible because JavaScript rendering and hardware-boosted web code is capable of giving the features of Flash.

Currently, it works best for ads and animations and may not port games or other complex SWF-based files. Google doesn't mention Apple by name, but the app seems designed for site owners and Flash developers to service iOS-based users without having to drop content or use a much more complicated conversion method.
