Apple iPhone 5 to not include NFC
Comment | Print | Email to a Friend | Font Size: AAApple has reportedly informed their European iPhone carriers that the next-gen iPhone will not include NFC (Near Field Communication) technology. Apple is said to have been reluctant to include the NFC tech and introduce a new "wave and pay" system due to a "lack of clear standard across the industry".
The iPhone 5 not having NFC tech does not mean Apple are not worrying about NFC altogether, as they could be working on their own NFC service set for a 2012 launch.
Apple is understood to be working on its own NFC proposition, which would link payments through iTunes. It hopes to introduce the technology in a handset likely to be released next year.
