There are a lot of companies in the home theater and audio business that make some really nice speakers and other audio gear. One of the companies that many people really like is Klipsch. Klipsch makes some seriously high-end speakers for home theaters that will run you $30,000 or more and the company has much cheaper offerings for us normal folks.
Klipsch used to be in the PC speaker market and my favorite set of surround sound speakers ever for a PC came from them. Audiovox is a company that used to be big in the consumer electronics and radio market and is still part of the market; I just rarely hear about them or see their products today. Audiovox has announced that it has signed an agreement to purchase Klipsch.
The deal will cost Audiovox $166 million and will make Klipsch a wholly owned subsidiary of Audiovox. The Klipsch brand will live on and the company will be run separately and remain in its current US headquarters. The deal is expected to close in the next 30 days. I would bet that the move would see some new tech coming to Audiovox gear.
