SAVANT introduces 16-Channel class D amp for multi-room audio

By: (more) | Audio, Sound & Speakers News | Posted: Jan 27, 2011 8:04 pm

If you are setting up a multi-room audio solution, you may need an amp of some sort. What sort of amp you need really depends on the complexity of the system you are designing. If you have a big home or a business that you want music in with a bunch of rooms, SAVANT has the amp for your system and it's called the AMP-1640.

The 1640 has 16-channels of sound and provides 40 wpc at 8 ohms or 50 wpc at 4 ohms. The amp is a big unit that is rack mountable and takes up three slots in the rack. SAVANT designed it to work with any of its whole room audio systems. The frequency response of the amp is 20H to 20kHz.

Each of the channels has its own level control and has inputs for RCA and screw terminal jacks for speaker wire. The amp has no fans and has an overload protection circuit on the front panel. Configuration options allow the amp to support stereo and mono applications. The device is available now at an undisclosed price.
