Smartphones still in the minority among U.S. cellphone users

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Jan 22, 2011 5:01 am

Look around you; it seems like almost everyone you know is sporting a smartphone these days, doesn't it? I know I love mine. This isn't quite as true as it looks, according to research done by CTIA and Comscore. While in the U.S. the iPhone and Android are running neck and neck in users among the big four carriers, the percentage of total phones being used is still fairly small.

Another thing to take away from the graph is that only iPhone and Android devices are separated from the pack, which leaves Blackberry users in the big blue percentage as well. While Verizon has nearly half of Android's userbase among the big four, it will be interesting to see what the iPhone does to those numbers once it hits Verizon's network. Also, how many iPhone lovers will jump ship to Verizon for pure network purposes? We'll have to wait and see.
