Samsung announces plans to produce NFC chips

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Dec 1, 2010 10:15 pm

Samsung has long been known as a maker of memory chips, and now they are bringing that knowledge into the near-field communications realm with their announcement of plans to begin manufacturing NFC chips that will be the first to include embedded flash memory.

NFC technology, which allows short range data transmission and communication that is used in things like swiping your phone like a credit card to pay a bill, is becoming a hot idea. With Android 2.3 set to have NFC support and the upcoming Nexus S already shown to have the ability to take advantage of the tech, it makes sense for them to handle the process themselves. Production of the chips is slated to start sometime in Q1 2011.
