According to Ryan Block of gdgt.com, the Apple engineers found out that slider cases can cause serious scratches if particles get between the glass and the case, leading eventually to cracks in the glass that you never know happened. This is why Apple had, until this week, blocked any third party cases from the Apple Store. Manufacturers who have signed on to give Apple a 10-15 percent cut of their profits for the highly desired and official "Made for iPhone" badge that allows cases to be sold in the Apple Store will most likely be out of luck.
