Geek turns old MacBook into DIY tablet

By: (more) | Laptops News | Posted: Oct 4, 2010 7:02 pm

Having the batteries blow up inside your notebook and break the thing is not a good deal. This is exactly what happened to one geek's 2007 model MacBook with a Core 2 Duo CPU inside. The batteries overheated, exploded, and killed the machine. Rather than toss it in the trash the guy took it apart and crafted his own Mac tablet.

The guy cobbled together some of the internal components from the notebook with a touchscreen and a custom made case. The finished product is a very nice looking tablet that has touch capability in a package with the bezel turned the correct way rather than being flipped around.

The tablet is still in development right now. As you can see in the image the USB cable for the touchscreen comes outside the case and plugs into a USB port. The guy plans to internalize the USB cable for a cleaner appearance. The whole thing is really cool and you can see it in action in the video below.
