FCC officially gives "Super Wi-Fi" the green light

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Sep 24, 2010 12:35 am

It's been in the works for a few years now, but the FCC has now officially cleared the path for "Super Wi-Fi" technology to hit the market. Super Wi-Fi takes advantage of the "white space" in the spectrum between TV channel signals.

Without getting too horribly technical, Super-WiFi basically would act the same as regular Wi-Fi except with a more powerful signal. Super Wi-Fi signal could travel several miles with possible download speeds between 15 and 20Mbps; something the router you're currently using couldn't even think about doing. No more worrying about getting signal through walls or on your front porch. While we may not reap the benefits of Super Wi-Fi for a couple years, it's nice to see the next big thing in wireless tech moving forward.
