MSI WindBox III has no fan and uses Core 2 Duo CPU

By: (more) | Computer Systems News | Posted: Sep 1, 2010 4:04 pm

I really like the idea of a nettop that can be hung on the back of a TV and needs no fan so it runs absolutely quiet. The sound of the hard drive in the DVR I have drives me crazy sometimes and I am sure I am not the only one what wants quiet while watching TV. MSI has unveiled a new WindBox III nettop that may be just what I want.

The WindBox III sheds the slower Atom CPU and grabs up a Core 2 Duo CPU for more performance. The machine can be stuck to the back of a PC display of a TV out of the way and despite the faster CPU, it still needs no fan. It can connect to the VISA mount on the rear of most displays.

Other features of the machine include 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, DVI-I, DVI-D, six USB ports, a pair of com ports and audio in and out ports. The little machine has 4GB of RAM. Pricing is unknown right now and it's a real shame there is no HDMI out.
