Component contracts assigned for Apple iPad 2

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Aug 17, 2010 12:08 pm

A reputable major Taiwanese newspaper has indicated that Apple has another iPad like tablet device on the horizon which could see a launch as early as Christmas of this year. The information given suggests a 7-inch sized tablet in the works with assembly already underway by some Taiwanese companies.

The Economic Daily News financial newspaper mentions that these Taiwanese companies have been given a number of component contracts for the new "iPad 2", including Chimei Innolux supplying the 7-inch LCD screens that are said to use the same IPS tech found in the existing iPad. Cando Corporation will be the Touchscreen technology suppliers for these screens, according to the report.

The report also says that Apple has assigned one of the world's largest contract laptop makers to assemble the new iPad, that being Compal Electronics. There is no confirmation from any of these contract manufacturers as to their involvement, most likely in fear of losing out on future contracts.
