Possible IBM HDD fix, kind of

The Inquirer is running a story which suggests to fix problems with IBM DTLA hard disk drives failing after a short period of time (with no cooling), you must disable UDMA. This slows down hard disk drive performance significantly and is not what I would consider an adequate enough fix, considering the overall system performance hit which would occur from taking such action. The news doesn't get any better for IBM hard disk drive owners, The Inquirer is also reporting that IBM are getting out of the hard disk drive business and selling 70% of their business to Hitachi. It seems IBM hard disk drive owners will continue to scratch their heads in dismay.
