Samsung whips out new EcoGreen F4EG HDD

By: (more) | Storage News | Posted: Aug 3, 2010 7:10 pm

Samsung has added a new HDD to its line of Eco Green offerings. The newest drive is called the F4EG and is the follow up to the F3EG. The drive is good for storing up to 880 hours of video or 500,000 songs.

The HDD has 19% better standby time performance and 23% lower power consumption than the F3EG. The lower power usage is thanks in part to new platters that store 667GB each.

The 2TB HDD uses three of these platters rather than the four platters needed by the F3EG to hit the same capacity. The HDD also has a 3Gbps SATA interface, NCQ, and a 32MB buffer. The MSRP starts at $119.99 and the drive will ship in September.
