iPhone possibly coming to T-Mobile instead of Verizon?

T-Mobile hoping to have the iPhone as early as this year

It's hard to believe that there's a iPhone exclusivity rumor out there that does nt involve Verizon since we've been getting hammered with those tidbits for months now. It seems there's a new player in the U.S. market for the iPhone though: T-Mobile.

The U.S.'s fourth largest wireless carrier may be making a play to bring the iPhone to their network. According to a source for Cult of Mac, talks between Apple and T-Mobile are "at an advanced stage," and T-Mobile users could see the iPhone as early as Q3 2010.

What's the connection that could be making this happen? Deutsche Telecom, which is T-Mobile's parent company, carries the iPhone in Germany and may have possibly gotten involved in the talks. "T-Mobile USA is hoping to start selling the popular smartphone later this year or next year," stated Deutsche Telekom's CEO Rene Obermann in an interview with the Financial Times.
