AT&T reportedly ordering 8 million Windows Phone 7 based devices
Comment | Print | Email to a Friend | Font Size: AAWell, it looks like at least one U.S. mobile carrier is betting the farm on Windows Phone 7 taking off like a rocket. A source revealed to Slashgear that AT&T has put themselves down for 8 million Windows Phone 7 based devices ahead of the expected launch near the end of this year.
The split of the numbers over different handset manufacturers are unknown, but to put the number in perspective Apple sold about the same number of iPhones in the last reported quarter. The source does not believe that this makes Windows Phone 7 an AT&T exclusive (thank heavens) but this is a huge step for Microsoft to compete with the big boys after being a little late to the party.
