Smartpad tablet drops in Germany

German internet provider 1&1 brings Android love

The German internet provider 1&1 have a new toy to lure in new DSL customers in July: the Smartpad. Sporting a 500MHz ARM11 processor with 256MB RAM/1GB ROM and Android 1.6, this 7 inch tablet will be offered to new DSL customers as a bonus to their broadband package. An update to Android 2.2 is planned for September to bring it into the modern world of Android.

 

The tablet also includes an SD card reader with a supplied 2GB card and USB host port. Access to the Android Market doesn't look like a go; the Smartpad will come preconfigured with several Android apps and will only have access to a proprietary store with only around 100 apps available. Then again, it's not a bad little perk to get with your shiny new DSL service.
