512mb of RAM confirmed in the iPhone 4

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Jun 17, 2010 11:16 pm

With multitasking being one of the big selling points of the new iPhone 4, one of the big issues with this feature would be whether there's enough memory under the hood to make the experience a smooth one instead of a slideshow and waiting game. Apple isn't usually very forthcoming about the specs of their devices though, but Macrumors has verified that the iPhone 4 will indeed ship with 512mb of onboard RAM, which is double what the iPhone 3GS and even the iPad have.

The 512mb of onboard RAM dos not jibe with early leaked internet photos of the iPhone 4, but it is reported that Apple confirmed the amount last week at WWDC and it has now been verified by multiple sources. This is a good move for Apple, because not only will multitasking eat up RAM but many memory hungry apps like the iMovie app that will only be available on iPhone 4 could really become resource hogs in a hurry.
