The WiMAX Forum Global Congress in Amsterdam was the center of the wireless networking world as performance enhancements to the mobile WiMAX standard IEEE 802.16e were proposed in Amsterdam. The proposal established ways to advance speed of data, efficiency of networks, and other improvements to ensure interoperability and availability in the commercial sector.

Proposed enhancements include increased data uplink and downlink budgets, up to 70 percent improvement in spectral efficiency, doubling peak data rates, and new tech to reduce interference. The forum is hoping to implement equipment to accomplish these goals.

Ron Marquardt, vice president of technology for Clearwire, stated: "On average, our mobile 4G customers are consuming more than seven gigabytes of data every month.said We're committed to constant innovation and these enhancements to the 802.16e standard will increase our ability to meet the incredible demand for super fast mobile Internet both in the home and on the go."
