Canon stops SED screen development for home users
Comment | Print | Email to a Friend | Font Size: AACanon has been developing SED or surface-conduction electron-emitter displays for years with the goal of bringing the screens to the home theater market on TVs. The company has had a hard time with the project facing numerous delays and cost overruns.

The prices on LCD and plasma screens also dropped significantly leaving SED tech at a much higher price point. Canon has officially folded when it comes to bringing SEDs to the home market. The company will continue to develop SED screens for some markets though.
The screens will be used in medical devices among other places. Canon reports that it will not have to write down the costs of developing SED tech at this time.
