AT&T and Verizon are planning to speed up their networks and release more devices this holiday season with their partners Motorola, Samsung, and LG. AT&T plans to triple the speed of their home internet services and Verizon plans to release new high-speed phones much earlier than previously expected.

According to John Stankey, AT&T's operations chief, companies are looking for growth in more business applications such as medical devices and security systems which could generate over $1 billion in revenue a year. "We still have a tremendous amount of opportunity in wireless," he stated in response to suggestions that the industry's days of huge growth were over.

Verizon Wireless is also planning to expand their high-speed network by implementing Long Term Evolution (LTE) Technology. Five LTE handsets are planned for release by next May. Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam states that Verizon is on track to offer LTE technology to 25-30 markets covering over 100 million customers by year's end. He stated Verizon is also planning multiple Android-based devices to compete with the iPad by the fourth quarter as well.
