OWC announces Mercury Extreme Pro SandForce powered SSDs

By: (more) | Storage News | Posted: May 12, 2010 1:53 pm

Other World Computing or OWC has just formally introduced its new Mercury Extreme Pro series of SSDs which use the highly respectable enterprise level SF-1200 controller.

In case you missed it, Chris got hold of a Pro RE series 100GB model (using the same SF-1200 controller) for testing last week and if you check out all of his test results and compare the price point of OWC's Mercury Extreme series SSDs versus competitors' models on the market, you'll see why it was well deserving of our Editors Choice award.

These SSDs boast up to 285MB/sec sustained data transfer rates and are saif to use up to 1/7 less active power use in notebooks for superior battery life.

The Mercury Extreme Pro SSD series come in capacities of 60, 120, 240 and 480GB with pricing of $219.99, $379.99, $699.99 and $1,579.99 respectively. The full press release can be found here.
