No multi-tasking for iPhone 3G - hardware not good enough

By: (more) | Mobile Devices, Tablets & Phones News | Posted: Apr 8, 2010 6:23 pm

Apple's iPhone 0.4 announcement event has just concluded a bunch of new features were announced such as multitasking, folders, iBooks, GameKit, iAd and improved mail support.

Towards the end of the event, Jobs announced that OS 4.0 will be released to developers today and to consumers sometime in summer. The sad news is that not all features of OS 4.0 will be supported by the iPhone 3G or iPod touch second generation.

One of the features that won't make it to the iPhone 3G is multi-tasking support and that is a great disappointed, especially from someone who has made the move to the 3GS and intended on waiting for the iPhone 4G (or HD). Jobs said that the hardware is too old and multi-tasking is just out of the question.

Suffice to say and presumably multi-tasking will not be an option at all on the original iPhone. Is this a reason for consumers to upgrade to the 3GS now or wait for the next generation iPhone later on this year? Decisions, decisions!
