Deets surface on the AMD Phenom II X4 T series

AMD and Intel are fighting all the time in the CPU market. Intel historically outperforms AMD, but AMD comes in at a much lower price. Some new details on AMD's next entry into the CPU battle have surfaced.

The new processor in question is the AMD Phenom II X4 T series. The processors will be quad core parts, but will be based on the Thuban core which is a 6-core part making headlines recently. The first processors in the series will be the Phenom II X4 960T and the Phenom II X4 940T.

The 960T runs at 3.3GHz and the 940T is a 3GHz part. Both are based on the Denab die, which is a Thuban die with two of the cores disabled to make a processor with a codename Zosma. The parts will feature Turbo Core to step up the clock speed when needed and step clock speeds down when not needed. One cool feature is that the two locked cores can reportedly be unlocked making the parts 6-core, though that might not work in all cases according to TechPowerUp.
