Verizon to offer Skype Calls over 3G

By: (more) | Connectivity & Communications News | Posted: Feb 16, 2010 8:22 pm

If you are a one of those people getting tired of the ever increasing and changing rates of your mobile phone plan then today might have some news for you to be happy about. It seems that Verizon, in its ever increasing attempts to stick it to its competition is going to allow unlimited Skype calls over their 3G network. This is something that you cannot do on any other network provider in the US at the time of this writing.

The new "service" will become available in March for a wide range of smartphones with accompanying data plans. You will need to download and install the Skype Mobile application and of course you will need to have a Skype plan if you want to talk to people that are not already on Skype but still this is a huge step forward.

I am sure that this new feature will come up in future Verizon commercials, especially given AT&T's stance on the VoIP service and other applications that use up the limited bandwidth that AT&T's network has.
