Acer looks to add Ion 2 chips to new Pineview netbooks and nettops

I wondered for a long time where all the Ion-powered machines were. Ion looked cool when I saw it at CES, but it took a long time to get manufacturers to offer machines that used the graphics chip. NVIDIA is now set to releases its Ion 2 chipset.

 

 

According to reports form DigiTimes Acer is looking to order Ion 2 for some of its coming netbooks and nettops. The new Ion 2 chips will be pared with the Pineview line from Intel set to hit early next year.

 

DigiTimes reports that the new Ion 2 chip will work more like a discrete GPU with the Pinetrail line because Intel moved the memory controller and IGP from the Northbridge to the CPU. This is good news for NVIDIA who could use a sales boost with the poor economy.
