A USB specific mob by the name of Brandon has jumped into the still highly premature USB 3.0 market early with an ExpressCard that gives USB 3.0 support to one's notebook via a couple of ports (which are of course backward compatible for USB 2.0 devices; albeit at USB 2.0 capped transfer rates).
It's assumed the card uses the NEC controller and is now readily available with a USB power cable included for $39 US.
