Imation unveils world's first wireless USB external HDD

By: (more) | Connectivity & Communications News | Posted: Nov 20, 2009 2:06 pm

I was really looking forward to wireless USB technology when I first heard about it. I couldn't wait to lose the cable from my printer to the PC and other cables too. One of the things that I was interested in were wireless external HDDs. Wireless USB is pretty much dead today, but that didn't stop Imation form unveiling a new external hard drive that is the world's first to offer wireless USB connectivity.

The drive is called the Imation Pro WX Wireless USB hard drive. The drive inside the case is a 3.5-inch unit and Imation promises that the drive is capable of data transfer speeds of 15MBs/second. The wireless range for the drive is 30 feet according to Imation.

That would mean that you could just take the wireless dongle from computer to computer and back up the data on all the computers within that range. The drive also has buttons for one-touch sync and backup and it is compatible with PC and Mac computers. The Pro WX is available now for $449.99.
