nVidia SLI Licensed for Core i7 and Core i5

Intel to have the best of both worlds.

licensing to cover both the Core i7 and Core i5. This means that Intel's flagship and mainstream CPUs will have support for both nVidia's and ATI's multi-GPU technology.

With this announcement it puts Intel at an advantage over AMD. While it is true that there are SLI boards for AMD these are all based on nVidia designs and require OEMs to purchase the chipset from nVidia which usually pushes the cost of the boards up. You also only receive support for either ATi or nVidia.

Intel can utilize their own chipset and cover both ends of the game. This allows for a greater latitude for consumers looking to get into multiple GPUs. The Core i5 should be out sometime soon so this announcement is good for all potential buyers.
