New comer Vivitek to release $999 1080P Projector

By: (more) | Displays & Projectors News | Posted: Jul 23, 2009 2:17 am

There is a new kid on the block in the realm of HD projectors. Their name? Vivitek; if you have not heard of them you are not alone. Until I read about them putting out a 1080P capable projector for $999 I did not know who they were either.

But considering the other offerings from companies like Optoma are in the range of $2500-3000 US dollars this is does stand a chance of being a rather large hit.

Vivitek only released their first projector last year and they are already looking to butt heads with the big boys. The new low-cost projector will feature a Texas Instrument S450 Chip complete with Dark Chip II. For that $999 you also get two HDMI ports, composite ports, S-Video, Component, and RS-232 and a 12 Volt trigger. Contrast is going to be 5000:1.

In all not too shabby for the price, I think the big guys might have something to be concerned about.
