Android LiveCD available for download

This morning I stumbled across something pretty cool. It is a liveCD version of Google’s Android OS. This new version has had x86 support shoehorned into it by some ingenious coders.

The new LiveCD will allow people to get a look at Android before it hits the shelves inside a netbook. The version was taken from an eee_701 Android OS image and altered to work on a stock x86 PC.

I grabbed the ISO image (make sure you get both 001 and 002) right away and took a quick look. I needed to use HJSplit to rejoin the two parts of the ISO as neither WinRAR nor WinZip worked, but after that I was good to go. I was surprised at how well it worked on very limited resources.

As you can see in the movie below the OS was pretty responsive in a VM with only 128MB of RAM.

Should be fun to play with though, happy downloading.

Grab the LiveCD here.
