Intel Previews Nehalem-EX Xeon Processor

By: (more) | CPU, APU & Chipsets News | Posted: May 27, 2009 6:49 am

True to their word from last week, Intel has given a preview of the Nehalem-EX Xeon processor.

The Nehalem-EX will have up to 8 cores per chip and support up to 16 threads via Hyper-threading support. Backing the octo-core chip will be 24MB of shared cache, integrated memory controllers, and 2.3 billion transistors built on a 45nm process.

This will give the processor up to nine times the memory bandwidth compared to that of the previous generation and support up to 16 memory slots per socket. Nehalem-EX will scale up to eight sockets via Intel's Quick Path Interconnects. Topping everything off, the new Xeons will support Intel's Turbo Boost Technology as well.
