Intel Delays Tukwila Itanium... Again

Intel has announced yet another delay for the upcomming Itanium processor, this time pushing the chip back to Q1 2010.

Intel Delays Tukwila Itanium... Again

Originally expected in Q4 2008, Intel said that the Tukwila chip would be pushed back to Q2 2009. Intel states that the delay gives them a "greater opportunity to gain share versus proprietary RISC solutions including Sparc and IBM Power."

For those unfamiliar with Tukwila, it is a 65nm part with 2 billion transistors. The big kickers for the chip are the 30MB of cache and dual integrated memory controllers. When Tukwila finally comes, it will have a TDP of 130W and also have Milti-Threading support.
