AMD Says Instanbul Is Right On Track
Following up on last week's demo, AMD spokesperson Jake Whitman now says that, "The silicon is healthy and we're targeting a launch in 2H09."

Director of business development for server/workstation products John Fruehe wrote, "The new 6-core version of the AMD Opteron processor is...everything we had hoped for--and more." We can only hope that more numbers start popping up or that AMD lets some engineering samples out the door soon.
AMD also said that Istanbul will be in the same power and thermal ranges as the existing Shanghai Opteron's, despite the additional two cores. This will make upgrade paths even friendlier for those wishing to swap chips when they hit the shelves.
