NVIDIA Embraces VIA Nano for Ion 2

NVIDIA's president Jen-Hsun Huang took the time out to have a duscussion with Digitimes and revealed some information about the ION 2.

Most importantly is the announcement that NVIDIA is dumping the Atom processor in favor of the VIA Nano CPU. NVIDIA states that their goal is to give the consumer a choice when pairing an Ion GPU with a CPU.

 

While it was said that the Ion 2 will come this year, you can bet that there will at least be an announcement in the upcomming months with CeBIT just around the corner. Who knows, there might even be working display to drool over.

 

Speaking frankly in an official statement, Huang claimed that "at the heart of this issue is that the CPU has run its course and the soul of the PC is shifting quickly to the GPU. This is clearly an attempt to stifle innovation to protect a decaying CPU business."
