Core i7 950 (3.06GHz) coming out in Q2

By: (more) | Posted: Feb 10, 2009 3:01 am

Recently we made mention of Intel's plans to unleash an even more powerful Core i7 processor in the near future, this dubbed the Core i7 975 which will come clocked in at 3.33GHz and likely take over the $999 USD price tag of the existing Core i7 965 Extreme.

Now word has come out that another processor will be launching alongside it which will come in the form of the Core i7 950. This processor is said to be a replacement for the existing Core i7 940 and will come clocked in at 3.06GHz with a price tag of $562.

Both of these processors will use the newer D0 stepping core (which promises even better overclocking potential) and are expected for release sometime during Q2.

It should also be mentioned that Intel plans to start shipping D0 revision chips of the highly popular Core i7 920 come March 2nd and there won't be an immediate phase-out of the older (supposed less overclockable) C0 stepping 920s so be weary when picking up a 920 from March onward!
