Korea to have 1Gbps download speed by 2012

The other night I was extremely happy to find that my ISP was kicking up my service. I was going to be getting 15Mbps download and 768k up. I thought that was just plain great.

 

However, after reading a recent article on Gizmodo I am more than a little depressed at my internet speed.

 

It seems that Korea is dumping a few billion dollars into providing 1Gbps download speeds by 2012. You won't be able to get this speed everywhere, as it will only be available in the major cities but even the 2nd tier service of 50-100Mbps makes my new "fast" connection look like dial-up
