AMD Launches 5 new 55Watt Opteron Quads

By: (more) | CPU, APU & Chipsets News | Posted: Jan 26, 2009 2:36 pm

AMD has launched five new 55 Watt Quad-Core Opterons. These new additions to the Opteron Line will come ranged from 2.1GhHz to 2.3 GHz and will be part of the 45nm family.

These low power Opterons are intended (according to AMD) to help datacenters deal with the rising cost of power and heat. AMD also launched a pair of 45nm Opteron SE CPUs that run at 105Watts.

The new 2.8GHz SE will run you $1,100 for the 2-way model and over $2,600 for the 8-way version. The HE versions are a little more reasonable and start off at $209 for the 2-way 2.1GHz model. HP has several new rackmountable systems already lined up for sale.
