More info on Intel's next-gen Atom platform

By: (more) | Posted: Jan 22, 2009 3:08 am

As mentioned the other day, it's been said that Intel's next generation Atom platform (codenamed Pine Trail-D) will be more of an SoC (System on Chip) arrangement with the CPU, IGP and MCH all being integrated together.

Expreview has now gathered some more specifics about Pine Trail-D which show the entry level model to have a clock rate of 1.6GHz, double that of the current entry level Atom processor. It appears the IGP will only be DX9 based, but that's not exactly unfitting as DX10 functions on Nettop platforms don't make a lot of sense.

Also discovered is the use of a new Southbridge, called Tigerpoint. This will incorporate such features as eight USB 2.0 ports, four PCI-E x1 lanes, two legacy PCI ports, two SATA ports, Intel HD audio and Ethernet.
