Phenom II 950 3.1GHz to launch in Q2
Comment | Print | Email to a Friend | Font Size: AAI am not sure what AMD is up to. Anymore I am beginning to think that the Phenom II AM2 CPUs were just to get something to market to compete with Intel on any level at all.
Despite hints and rumors that AMD would drop the AM3 DDR3 Phenom IIs on the market in February it looks like we might not see them until Q2.
When we do see them we will see the launch of the PhenomII 950 this will be a 3.1GHz quad core part and the fastest Quad Core AMD will have.
Although it is possible that lower end AM3 CPUs might still peek out in February, for the most part people will have to wait until Q2 for their AM3 love.

We've confirmed the plans for introduction 3.1GHz Phenom II 950 and this CPU is going to use the new AM3 socket. This finally brings DDR3 memory to the AMD platform, but at the same time it also means that 3GHz AM3 based Phenom 945 is delayed for almost a whole quarter.
Back in December, we've seen some plans that indicated that AM3 3GHz Phenom II 945 will show in February, but the new roadmap clearly shows that it will be pushed for Q2 2009.
Some slower AM3 parts will launch in February, and Phenom II 950 with 3.1GHz is going to be the fastest AMD's quad core to be released to date.
