USB 3.0 transfer rates demo'd at CES

By: (more) | Connectivity & Communications News | Posted: Jan 11, 2009 2:37 am

Engadget dropped by Symwave's booth during their travels at CES earlier today who are the first to show USB 3.0 technology in action with a supporting external storage device.

Although a little bit ghetto, the setup allows one to easily see the transfer rates from a single drive and Engadget saw it averaging around 78MB/sec; a probable HDD bottlebeck as the technology does have around 10x the headroom of USB 2.0 at up to 500MB/sec, meaning external RAID and SSD solutions should harness the throughput a lot better.

You can read more details and see an action video of the setup here.
