Intel might not allow nVidia to use Atom

Not without an Intel Chipset

The guys over at TechConnect have a report that could be very bad news for nVidia's netbook dreams.

In the report that they mention that Intel might not allow the sale of Atom CPUs without a chipset (which is the current sales model). If this report is true that would leave nVidia's 9400M out in the cold and not much more than a dream.

Intel might not allow nVidia to use Atom

Intel is said to have made it very clear that it won't sell Atom processors without a 945 chipset, thus making it hard for manufacturers to adopt Ion and develop cost-effective nettops, netbooks with it.

Since Nvidia's whole idea relies on Intel giving in and selling Atom CPUs without a chipset, the Ion platform is looking like nothing more but a nice dream.
