Bluetooth 3.0 standard coming mid next year
It's looking like we can expect an update to the current Bluetooth standard mid next year with Mike Foley of the Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group) confirming they have something in the works for mid next year.

It was first speculated that the new standard would be deemed Bluetooth 2.2, but Mike has told Wireless Week that it's more probable they will call it 3.0.
The main differences we can expect to see from the update is much faster overall speeds as well as connection times. The company is also working on some more efficient/low-power Bluetooth versions as well.
